Futures Split Weekend At 2018 Mid-Winter Classic

DETROIT, MI- The Florida Jr. Blades 16U Futures team traveled to the 2018 Mid-Winter AAA Classic Invitational this past weekend in Detroit, Michigan. After a strong Friday start, Futures returned from the trip with a 2-2 record.

“The Mid-Winter classic was a great experience for us as a team. Going 2 and 2 with a great come from behind win against Victory Honda was a testament to the guys resilience and team work,” said head coach Pete Flores. “The weekend brought a lot of good hockey and a glimpse of some of the top teams in country. Now we move on to league playoffs and the experience from this weekend has been another step towards our overall goal.”

On Friday, Futures debuted at the tournament with a 5-4 victory against the Victory Honda program in an early morning battle at the Taylor Sportsplex. Futures continued their winning-momentum later that evening with a 9-3 win against the Cleveland Wildcats.

The pool-play style tournament had Futures set against Honeybaked for an early Saturday morning contest where Futures fell 4-2 in a highly spirited battle. Later that evening, Futures dropped their second game of the tournament against South Kent 8-1.
