Estero, FL- The Junior Everblades 12U A team had a successful weekend at the Columbus Day Discovery Showdown tournament in Palm Beach splitting the weekend with a 2-2 record.

“I’m very pleased with the progress we made between Friday and Sunday in terms of playing smart team hockey,” said head coach James Johnstone. “We still have a lot of work to do in that regard but this weekend showed that they are capable learners, so I am optimistic about the future.”

The series began with the 12U A program scoring a 7-2 win over CFHC but a disappointing second round resulted in a loss to the Palm Beach Hawks. The team rallied in the third round to beat the Palm Beach Breakers 6-2, where they went on to face the Hawks in the semi-finals. As the 12U A program forced overtime, the Hawks clinched the winning goal eventually in a shootout.

“I think we’ve turned a corner with becoming a real team. The boys are working hard in the areas of the game that don’t bring individual glory, but that make a meaningful difference in the team’s success,” said Johnstone. “There were numerous examples of our guys choosing the power play over selfishly retaliating, and they sure did a great job protecting Logan while walking the fine line of not getting penalized.”

The 12U A program will next head to the Panthers Ice Den where they will face the Miami Toros Saturday, October 14 at 1:30 p.m. and then battle the Florida Jr. Panthers at 4:35 p.m.
