ESTERO, FL- The Florida Jr. Blades 16U Futures team debuted at the USPHL Playoffs for the first time over President’s Day weekend in North Andover, Massachusetts. Futures ended the three-day event with a 2-1 record, ending the season in fifth place overall.

“The guys fought hard this weekend and going 2-1 with our only loss coming to the eventual champion, Jersey Hitmen, is a good result. Missing out on the championship by goal differential is a tough way to go out but the guys had the drive to make that up in the last game. We just came up short,” said head coach Pete Flores on Futures playoff performance.

Despite opening playoffs against the Jersey Hitmen with 6-1 loss, Futures quickly rebounded to collect their first playoff win against the Jersey Shore Whalers 3-2. Brennan Cyhaniuk, Andrew Micheli and Christina McGovern scored during the playoff victory, while Zach Humphrey stopped 29 of the 31 shots faced.

On Monday, Futures conquered the Connecticut Junior Rangers 4-1 at Worcester Ice Center in their final playoff battle. Brennan Cyhaniuk notched two goals and found his fifth playoff point during the Rangers game. McGovern and Austin Rice also found the back of net against Rangers netminder Declan Long. Falsetto shined in between the pipes stopping 16 of the 17 shots faced.

“As a first-year program the guys worked hard and turned some heads throughout the year. I can’t be more proud of the on-ice and personal growth I’ve seen in each one of these guys. To look at where we started to where we ended up its truly an honor to have this group together,” said Flores on the end of the season. “My thanks go out to all the parents, players and members of the organization for their support. We now look towards the future and gear up for off season training in preparation for tryouts coming up in a few months.”
