ESTERO, FL- The Florida Junior Everblades 10U A program split the Saturday double-header at Germain Arena against the Florida Jr. Panthers Gold and Miami Toros.
During the first game of the day, 10U A was unable to clinch a victory falling 6-1 against the Panthers Gold.
“We played the number one team in the league, the Florida Jr. Panthers Gold. We lost 6-1 but both coaches agreed the score was not reflective of how close the game was as both shots and time on attack were even,” said head coach Garrett Brown. “The team was shaken up by the loss, we talked about winning and losing as a team after the game. Everybody proudly hung their heads high and walked out of the locker room to get ready to face the Toros.”
The Saturday double-header came to an end when the 10U A program took to the ice to face the Miami Toros at 6:15 p.m. The 10U A program overtook the Toros in an exiting comeback win with both FGCU and USF watching the thrilling battle.
“The team was fired up and we went out on the ice as warriors ready to conquer the Toros. Exiting the short intermission down 3-1, the team dominated the third period and with 1:46 remaining in the final frame Michael Mahoney ripped one far side on the ice,” said Brown. “That was the first time our team was down in a game and successfully rallied back. Team moral was at an all-time high after the win.”
Coach Brown views the weekend as a success and is excited for the reminder of the season.
“Day in and day out I tell anybody who will listen how proud I am of our team. They have been a dominant force in the SFHL all season, but this past weekend was quite the test,” Brown said. “My kids said that this must be what it feels like to win the Stanley Cup. Overall, it was a great weekend of hockey For the JEB Squirt A's.”
