Estero, FL- The 16U Futures program kicked off their inaugural season at the Connecticut Jr. Rangers Showcase over Labor Day weekend. The Jr. Blades ended the weekend with a 3-1-0 record, securing a total of six points.

"I'm very happy with the way we played this weekend,” said head coach Pete Flores. “We had a tough test against a good Rockets team right out of the gate. We struggled to find our groove in the first period but we just got better and better as that game went on.”

The New Jersey Rockets overtook the Jr. Blades in their opening game with a 5-1 loss where forward Austin Rice scored the Jr. Blades lone goal.

“The rest of the weekend we improved as a team with each game and even showed our resiliency, determination and grit in a hard-fought overtime win. It's a great start and we will continue to improve from here," said coach Flores on the team’s performance.

The Jr. Blades regrouped for a double header on Sunday where they first battled the Islanders Hockey Club coming out on top with a 10-2 win. Sunday evening the Philadelphia Blazers took the Jr. Blades into overtime where Brennan Cyhaniuk notched the overtime goal for a 4-3 victory.

Monday’s game was hosted by the Connecticut Junior Rangers, where the Jr. Blades walked away with all the momentum securing the 9-1 win.

The 16U Futures program next game will take place on the  Friday, October 20, against the Skipjacks Hockey Club at the Tri-Town Arena. For more information and updates please continue to visit FloridaJrBlades.com.
